For years, CoAEMSP guidelines required only five successful intubations to graduate from accredited paramedic programs. The vast majority of these intubations were performed on NPO patients in a controlled anesthesia setting unlike anything a paramedic will ever see in the field, and many graduates of these programs hit the streets not knowing what they didn’t know.
Advanced airway management success hinges on having a backup plan, and then another. In this webinar, sponsored by Zoll, airway management guru Kelly Grayson explains when and how to escalate to a more invasive and secure airway, and when to elevate care. Kelly focused on navigating the difficult airway, including:
- Apneic oxygenation techniques
- PEEP
- The pit crew approach to RSI/DSI
- Supraglottic airways
- Surgical cricothyroidotomy
